Born and raised on Anna Maria Island, Dustin has spent every day of his life on the water either at his parents sailboat and jet ski rental or fishing with his friends. As an adult he commercial fished and ran a charter business. Drawing marine life began as a pass time between charters. A neighbor of ours was a full time art teacher, saw his incredible charcoal and pencil drawings and talked Dustin into buying a real paint set. He made beautiful watercolor and oil paintings of all the marine life he loved. This began his career as a part time artist.
We started showing his work in small time weekend festivals and markets. One day he had the brilliant idea to utilize his grandpa’s wood shop and began to build wooden backgrounds to paint on and custom frames for his 2D art. We started to book higher end, juried art shows and his sales gained great momentum. One day after spending a full day at the shop, supposedly building more backgrounds and frames, he came home with an entire Sailfish and Mahi made of wood. The two sculptures were extremely popular with customers so naturally he buried himself in the wood shop until he had a whole set of wooden sculptures.
Dustin has been a full time wood sculptor for five years. Today we live on a small property with his own wood shop on our land and he continues to create and evolve his creations.
